The position of consequence is the seat at the table. For this moment, power is not held by parents, politicians, or police authority. The life of the game will dictate its own laws. When it is your turn, the power is in your hands no matter if you are holding dice, meeples, or cards.
Even between turns, power is not lost, it only builds as you patiently wait. As your opponent works through their move, you lurk like the hawk-eyed fowl, ready to swoop when it’s time to strike. The position of consequence is much like the life of a hunter. Success or failure results in feast or famine. If you play well, you can expect to get rewarded with joy & all the feel-good molecules bouncing around in your head. Play poorly & you will sleep on a stomach full of suck-sandwich.
Consequence is a powerfully neutral word. It’s neither positive nor negative, but never without effect. Nothing will keep a person more honest than knowing they will have to deal with the results of their own actions. Mommy ain’t coming to clean up your mess no more is what you gotta deal with. That’s the lesson we must learn 1 way or another.
